A page that gets the call.

Most small-business sites describe the business and hope. A page that converts answers one question fast, asks for one thing, and makes that thing easy on a phone. Open your site on your phone and work through this.

01The five-second test

Show your home page to someone for five seconds, then take it away. Can they say what you do, who it's for, and where you work? If not, rewrite the first sentence until they can. Lead with the customer's problem, not your company's history.

02One action, everywhere

Decide the single thing you want a visitor to do: call, book, or request a quote. Make it the one button that stands out on every screen, with the same words each time. Every extra choice is a chance to leave.

03The phone path

Most local customers find you on a phone. Your number should be a tap-to-call link at the top of every page, forms should ask for four fields or fewer, and the page should load quickly on a weak signal. Google's free PageSpeed Insights shows how your page does on mobile.

04Proof next to the ask

Put a reason to trust you right beside the button: a review, a photo of real work, years in business, or a guarantee you actually honor. Then tell people what happens next after they act, so the thank-you screen confirms it.

05Measure it

Install free analytics and count calls and form submissions as conversions. Without that, you can't tell whether a change helped. Measurement is the cheapest part of a website and the one most often skipped.
